Mother's Union members and helpers provide hospitality to the pilgrims
For 30 years or so, ‘Student Cross’ have been walking, and carrying a large cross, from Epping, North London to Walsingham to arrive in time for Good Friday, via Swaffham. In the parish church they receive hospitality, provided by the local branch of the Mothers’ Union. They spend about an hour with us, and the Mothers’ Union (and their helpers) share a short act of worship with the students before they leave – singing and carrying their large wooden cross on the next stage of their walk, to nearby Castle Acre, where they usually spend the night, before completing their journey to Walsingham where they meet up with other ‘legs’.
